In the October 2025 issue of the Delaware State Bar Association’s Bar Journal, Morris Nichols attorney Trevor York shared his experience participating in pro bono work with Delaware Volunteer Legal Services (DVLS).

In an article highlighting how attorneys can “fit volunteering into their lives/practices no matter where they are in their careers,” Trevor provided perspective as an attorney in his first year of practice. Detailing what drove him to become involved, he said, “I’ve always thought that service to the community is important. This is my first job since leaving the military, so I think engaging in pro bono legal work is something I can do to feel like I’m still serving others to an extent.”

DVLS strives to match attorneys from all practice areas with vulnerable people in the Delaware community who need pro bono representation. One common misconception Trevor dispels is that pro bono work is often associated with being in court. “I’m a transactional attorney, and generally prefer transactional work over court appearances. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there’s a lot of pro bono opportunities for transactional attorneys like me.”
