Reflecting on 2021 Delaware Law Industry Moments

As 2021 draws to a close, Law360 Pulse recently spoke with Delaware law firm leaders for their perspective on significant Delaware legal community developments over the past year.

Bill Lafferty, chair of Morris Nichols’ executive committee, offered insight on response to the COVID-19 pandemic and moves to a more flexible way of doing business. “We keep wanting to say we are back to normal, but it is not 100 percent,” Bill said. “The keyword is going to be ‘flexibility.’ People can work effectively from their home. The past year has shown that.”

Bill was also asked about judicial changes at the Delaware Court of Chancery following the retirement of Chancellor Bouchard. “[Bouchard] pushed for the expansion of the Chancery Court, which was a big thing,” navigated through “a pretty dynamic period” in corporate law and issued impactful decisions. “There are going to be real lasting benefits form his tenure,” Bill commented.
