Morris Nichols Wins ABI’s Fourth Annual International Matter of the Year Award
Morris Nichols has been named as one of the winners of the fourth annual “International Matter of the Year Award” by the American Bankruptcy Institute’s International Committee. Firms and individuals involved in In re FTX Trading Ltd., et al. earned the award for their work on a case that required collaboration between the United States and multiple foreign jurisdictions.
Morris Nichols served as co-counsel for the Ad Hoc Committee in the FTX bankruptcy. Bankruptcy & Restructuring partner Matt Harvey led the Morris Nichols team, which worked with the Ad Hoc Committee’s other professionals to advance plan strategies that maximized customer recoveries and facilitated the Debtors’ emergence from bankruptcy.
FTX, once the world’s third-largest cryptocurrency exchange, collapsed in November 2022 after a surge of customer withdrawals spurred by public reports of its tenuous financial position. The matter involved more than $8 billion in missing assets and left millions of customers without clarity regarding their holdings.
Fourteen firms were involved in this high-profile cross-border matter. According to ABI’s press release, “Everyone involved in the case displayed excellence from beginning to end, including a high level of professional expertise, creativity and skill, which brought about the successful completion of the matter.”
The fourth annual “International Matter of the Year Award” was announced at ABI’s International North American Insolvency Symposium in New York City on November 6, 2025.
